Orbán to German newspaper: "It is you who wanted the migrants, not us"

Opposition parties fined to be given until July 1st to pay

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of National Economy, Minister Mihály Varga initiated talks with the National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary (NAV) and the Hungarian State Treasury regarding the State Audit Office’s (ÁSZ) fining of five opposition parties for allegedly accepting “forbidden campaign contributions.” Although the affected parties will still have to pay the fines, the Hungarian State Treasury has agreed to extend the deadline for doing so until July 1st.

The Hungarian State Audit Office’s assault on democracy

As FreeHungary reported earlier, nothing sums up the state of the rule of law in Hungary better than the Hungarian State Audit Office's (ÁSZ) selective enforcement of regulation aimed at penalizing opposition parties (and likely driving one of them into bankruptcy), whilst dismissing the same rules when it comes to the ruling Fidesz party. The head of the State Audit Office is none other than a former Fidesz politician, László Domokos, who served as Fidesz's deputy leader in parliament from 1998 to 2002 and was also elected as a Fidesz MP in 2010 - hungarianfreepress.com reports.

Former Fidesz MP led State Audit Office (ÁSZ) to fine several opposition parties for “prohibited campaign finances”

In an emotional appeal made via a live video stream from his smartphone this morning, Együtt (Together) chairman Péter Juhász (pictured) announced that Hungary's State Audit Office (ÁSZ) intended to fine the small opposition party HUF 20 million (USD 77,000) for "prohibited campaign finance," and called on supporters to contribute "a thousand forints or so" each so that the party could continue its work in the run-up to next year's general election. ASZ is intending to fine other opposition parties, like radical Jobbik or the most popular left-wing opposition party, the Democratic Coalition.

Ferenc Gyurcsany's Democratic Coalition opposes cooperation with radical Jobbik

Vice chair of the opposition Democratic Coalition Csaba Molnár - who is also a MEP - said that he was against cooperation with radical nationalist Jobbik ahead of next year's parliamentary elections. Despite Jobbik's attempts to develop an amicable image, DK still considers it a "racist, discriminative and anti-Semitic party", Molnár told commercial Klubrádió.

Gyurcsany's DK becomes strongest party on the left

Gyurcsány cooperates with Bajnai’s former ally
