Putin might blackmail PM Orbán, Gyurcsany says

The head of Democratic Coalition (DK) Ferenc Gyurcsány said in an interview published in the online news site index.hu that he is convinced that his party will make it into the Hungarian Parliament after the general elections. According to his estimates DK will receive 8 to 13 per cent of all votes, winning in 4 to 8 constituencies and 10 to 20 seats in the new Parliament.

He also mentioned that he wouldn't enter into a coalition with the far-right Jobbik party, but if the opposition parties attained a majority in the new parliament, DK could support a temporary cabinet. Mr. Gyurcsány also didn't fully stand up for MSZP-Dialogue's candidate for Prime Minister (PM) Gergely Karácsony. If the democratic opposition won the elections they would go and negotiate about the future PM at the coalition talks. There's no need to accept another party's candidate for PM in advance, Mr. Gyurcsány said. But in case of a left-wing election victory without a doubt MSZP would have the biggest parliamentary group and they will have the right to nominate someone for PM. The head of DK also said that there is still no clear proof of PM Orbán's secret Swiss bank account. but he underlined again that he has done well by turning to the public with the pieces of information that he had on this issue. The head of DK also added that Russian president Putin might blackmail Orbán. He couldn't come to another conclusion seeing that Orbán became Russia's best friend after coming to power though he was Russia's staunch opponent before. Mr. Gyurcsány also mentioned that he would take back the right of ethnic Hungarians living in neighbouring countries to vote in Hungarian elections. He said that Fidesz took away the right of Hungarians who live inside the borders of Hungary to decide on their own fate. DK would give that right back. From the point of view of cross-border Hungarians their right to vote is not a vested right, but one given by Fidesz. The main point is that the only people who are supposed to take part in decision making are those who will bear the consequences of their vote. The right to vote is not part of the Hungarian identity, Mr. Gyurcsány said and he also added that he didn't even agree with the introduction of dual citizenship.
