Socialist PM candidate rejects negotiations on opposition parties' cooperation, Gyurcsany states

In a statement on Tuesday afternnon, chairman of the left-wing Democratic Coalition (DK) Ferenc Gyurcsány said that after several attempts, he managed to reach on the phone the Socialist Prime Minister candidate László Botka. As former Prime Minister Gyurcsány stated:

botka gyurcsany avato

" I suggested to him that closing the 5 months since his appearance, let's start negotiations finally about how to cooperate in changing the Orbán Government in 2018. The Socialist PM candidate has rejected this initiative. He said that there is no reason to negtiate unless DK accepts the 4 conditions set by him adressed to the opposition parties." - stated Gyurcsány.
"We need all democratic voters but not all politicians. Those who are a burden and have lost their chances and public confidence should withdraw," Botka launched his campaign a few months ago with these words. Those who wish to offer a credible programme to voters in the 2018 elections should draw the conclusions from the blunders made by the leftist-liberal governments of the 2002-2010 period. "A politician who lied to the voters' face is a burden for the Left and should consider retreating," Botka said then, referring to Ferenc Gyurcsány. (Botka's attempt to get rid of Gyurcsány is not just a waste of time but incredibly harmful. DK voters are devoted to the head of their party. They are not going to abandon him and flock to a left-of-center group that excludes the former Prime Minister. And no election can be won without Gyurcsány and DK - editor).
According to Gyurcsany, this approach is not negotiating but dictating.
"I am sorry. I am sorry that László Botka negotiated more times with Viktor Orbán than with the leader of any opposition party. I am sorry but DK won't accept that somebody wants to conquer rather than co-operate with his partners. We don't accept using force unilaterally from the Orban Government and we don't believe this can lead to successfull opposition cooperation. At the same time I don't want a debate about the debate. DK holds its opinion, but the startegy of victory should be defined togther and not unilaterally. DK remains open to further negotiations" - the chairman of DK stated.
