freelogoOur objective is to provide English speaking readers interested in Hungary with a well balanced view of political activities in Hungary by featuring contents from various printed and online sources together with our own commentaries. We are convinced that Hungary is built on all sorts of different ideas, thoughts and opinions and, despite of the new Media Law, our aim is to provide an alternative and reliable source of information – contrary to the one-sided press of the government – for those who want to hear the voice of a free Hungary.

Viktor Orban's close friend, controversial pro-Gov't publicist issues threat to protesters

Controversial Fidesz publicist Zsolt Bayer published a post on his blog on Tuesday in which he criticized expressions of concern coming from the American government over Hungary's recent passage of a repressive higher education law.

Bayer, who is well-known for writing profane, anti-Semitic columns in pro-government media and for making bold personal attacks, asserted in his blog post that the United States' position on the new law, known as lex CEU, can be attributed to "the American foreign policy still serving the old guard, there (too) Soros is still the boss."
Bayer continued in what seemed to be a threat of violence against protesters who have continually taken to the streets of Budapest since the law's proposal two weeks ago.
"We can confirm that within a very short deadline, we too will take to the streets in defense all that is important and holy to us. And we will be angry," Bayer wrote. "So for a little while you can still rage on the streets, you can try to intrude into Parliament, the ministries, Fidesz party headquarters, the President's office, you can go up against the police or attack journalists – for the time being. But then not. Then you will experience what it means to be persecuted and threatened. I tell you: we too are very angry. Do you understand?"
LMP co-chair Bernadett Szél wrote soon after on her Facebook page, "That's enough! We are reporting Zsolt Bayer for incitement against a community. That's what he deserves, not awards! Enough, enough, enough!"
Szél was referring to Hungary's third-highest state honor, the Knight's Cross, bestowed on Bayer by the Hungarian government last summer. Over 100 previous recipients of state honors returned their awards in protest in the days following Bayer's commendation.
