During an obligatory appearance in the National Assembly, Hungarian National Bank (MNB) governor György Matolcsy was approached by a group of journalists. A 50-second video shows Matolcsy's supreme ability at deflecting inquiries by the press. It did not matter what he was asked, his answers were all the same.
"I wish that you all have blessed and peaceful Advent and Christmas! Even those who wish to ask me a question, but right now I am going this way!" Matolcsy said as he passed from one room to the next.
"May even you have a peaceful Advent!" Matolcsy told a reporter trying to inquire about his living in a flat owned by the chairman of Unicredit Bank, which critics have asserted represents a conflict of interest.
"And for you I wish a Merry Christmas!" he told another reporter who asked whether he lived in the apartment despite having a registered residence elsewhere.
"I wish the same for you but that is not what I asked," the reporter responded.
"But that is what my answer is!" Matolcsy replied.
"Therefore, I would like to raise your awareness about the significance of Advent and celebration of Christmas!" he said as soon as another reporter started to ask a question.
