According to the latest Eurostat statistics, compared to the averages of the European Union and the Visegrád countries, Hungarian wages are very low.
In the eurozone the average wage was EUR 14,1 (HUF 4400), while in the European Union the average wage reached EUR 13,2 (HUF 4100) in 2014. The average gross wage in Hungary was EUR 3,6 (HUF 1100). People are earning more in Slovakia (EUR 4,4) and Poland (EUR 4,3), too. Hungary is followed in the statistics by Bulgaria, Romania, Lithuania and Estonia. Compared with the wages of Western-European countries, Hungarian wages are extremely low. The similar data in Denmark is EUR 25,5 (HUF 8000), in Ireland EUR 20,2 (HUF 6300), in Sweden EUR 18,5 (HUF 5850), in Luxembourg EUR 18,4 (HUF 5800), in Belgium EUR 17,3 (HUF 5500) and in Finland EUR 17,2 (HUF 5400).
