On the basis of the decision taken by the European Commission, the Hungarian government is obliged to withdraw the advertising tax introduced in 2014, which unilaterally affects the media that is independent from the government.
Thus, Hungary is again protected by the European Union from the Hungarian government regarding the measures taken to silence a free press. The Orbán regime could not have received a more potent form of feedback regarding its morally shameful practices.
The Democratic Coalition welcomes the European Commission's decision to cancel the advertising tax, the aim of which was to silence the free press. According to the DK, it is shameful that the European Community has to protect Hungarians' right to information from Fidesz, who is invoking the Soviet times. DK's deputies will continue to boycott the parliament, which functions as a setting for Orban's political despotism.
